Fascinating Trip to Udaipur and Mount Abu, Rajasthan

My trip to Udaipur and Mount Abu was just a 4 days trip but I have visited a lot of places in those 4 days. Here in this post, I will share my day wise trip experience and what all places I have covered in these 4 days. Udaipur is the historic capital of kingdom Mewar which was founded by Maharana Udai Singh in 1559 whereas Mount Abu is the popular hill station in Aravalli Range in Rajasthan, India.

Day 1 in Udaipur

I have reached Udaipur in afternoon and since I do not have much time left in the day I thought of visiting few nearby places. After getting freshened up I have visited Doodh Talai Lake which is a small pond located adjacent to the Lake Pichola. Then I have visited Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Park which is a small garden located near Doodh Talai Lake which offers sunset view in the lap of Lake Pichola as shown below.

Since I was exhausted and tired after having the long journey to reach Udaipur I thought of calling it a day.

Day 2 in Udaipur

I have taken a bike for rent on the 2nd day which I felt to be convenient as well as the fastest mode of travel. I have started my 2nd day of the trip by visiting City Palace which is #1 tourist attraction in Udaipur. City Palace is a palace complex which was built over a period of 400 years by rulers of the Mewar dynasty. This palace is built on the east bank of Lake Pichola. It took me more than 2.5 hours to visit each and every nook and corner of the City Palace. But the experience was one of its kind and you will get a feel for their culture.

Next, I have visited Jagdish Temple which is one of the most famous and largest temples in Udaipur located at a walking distance from the City Palace. The temple was built by Maharana Jagat Singh and was dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It comprises of beautifully carved pillars, decorated ceilings and painted walls.

Then I have visited Bagore Ki Haveli which is situated at Gangori Ghat on the banks of Lake Pichola. It has more than 100 rooms with a lot of corridors and balconies. In the evening, the haveli lightens and stages enjoyable performance of traditional folk dance and puppet dance. I have also taken a boat ride around Lake Pichola. The view from the lake is just as lovely as it is from the lakeside. Gentle boat ride on the lake with its cool breezes is a perfect way to get relaxed after visiting so many places. Then I have taken a Ropeway to visit Mansapurna Karni Mata mandir. Ropeway starts from Deen Dayal Park and takes you to Machhala Hill Top. The view from the top was breathtaking and you should not miss to capture the view.

On the 2nd day, I have traveled a lot of renowned places in Udaipur and it was one of the memory-rich days of my life.

Day 3 in Udaipur

I have started my 3rd day by visiting famous Eklingji temple.I rode from Udaipur to Eklingji Temple and have taken the NH54 highway. The view while riding from Udaipur to Eklingji was impeccable. So if given a choice always try to ride from Udaipur to Eklingji, because it was one of a kind of experience.

As soon as you enter the temple you will see a gold image of Nandi welcoming you. Then you have to enter the temple to witness the 50 ft high idol of Lord Shiva which has four faced depicting four forms of Lord Shiva. Eklingji temple is located at a distance of 22 km from Udaipur and it took approximately 60 minutes to reach the temple. It consists of 108 temples made up of sandstone and marble. No shoes or cameras are allowed inside the temple premises.

After that, we came back to Udaipur to visit Pratap Gaurav Kendra located at the Tiger Hills which is aimed to provide detailed information about the history and achievements of Maharana Pratap. The main attraction of Pratap Gaurav Kendra is the 57 feet high metal statue of Maharana Pratap. The main highlights of the Pratap Gaurav Kendra were 3D presentation of Haldi Ghati War, a large exhibition center and light and sound show.

Next, I have visited Shilpgram which is rural arts and crafts complex spread over 70 acres of land and surrounded by Aravali Mountains. There were a lot of traditional items for shopping. Our next stop was Sajjangarh Palace which is also known as Monsoon Palace which is a palace over the hill. Sajjangarh Palace was encircled by the Sajangarh Wildlife Sanctuary. You will get one of the best views of Udaipur lake.

Day 4 in Mount Abu

I have started early from Udaipur to reach Mount Abu before noon because it usually takes around 4 hours to reach from Udaipur to Mount Abu which is at a distance of 165 km. Mount Abu lies in the Aravalli mountain range at an approximate elevation of around 1220 meters.

At first, I have visited Dilwara Temple which is famous for its marble stone carvings thus making it one of the best beautiful pilgrimage spots in the world. We could not able to click the photos of this beautiful temple as cameras are not allowed inside the temple. Dilwara Temple mainly consists of five major sections and they are Shri Mahaveer Swami Temple, Shri AdiNath Temple, Shri ParshavNath Temple, Shri Rishabdoji Temple and Shri NemiNathji Temple.

Next, I have visited Guru Shikhar which is the highest point of the Aravali Mountains. You need to climb at least 250-300 steps in order to reach to the top point. I must say the view from the top is breathtaking and stunning. There is also a temple of Guru Dattatreya and a huge bell.

Next, I have visited Nakki Lake which is in the heart of Mount Abu, a great place to sit and relax. Surrounded by mountains and gardens, Nakki Lake is the perfect place to spend your evening with friends and family as it is the hub of evening activity. Mount Abu is one of the best tourist destination as it is the only hill station in the state of Rajasthan. It totally deserves a visit.

Have you visited Udaipur or Mount Abu? If not, plan your next holiday to Mount Abu and Udaipur, its worth the time.
