Hawa Mahal is five-storied building having two large courts situated at the heart of the city Bari Chaupar, Jaipur and have a walking distance from City Palace and Jantar Mantar. It was built in 1799 AD by Maharaja Pratap Singh. The five storeys are named as Sharad Mandir, Ratan Mandir, Vichitra Mandir, Prakash Mandir, and Hawa Mandir. It has a beehive like structure made up of pink and red stone and is painted pink just like the rest of the pink city of Jaipur.


The main reason for making Hawa Mahal is was to make Royal Rajput Women get connected with the public since they were not allowed to appear in public places. Through this Mahal, these Royal Rajput Women can catch the glimpses of royal possessions in the city thus giving them a sense of freedom without appearing in the public. The Hawa Mahal means the Palace of Winds because a little breeze passes through it at all times. The walls of the palace have 953 overhanging balconies from where the cool and fresh air passes. There is a small museum within the complex which displays items like miniature paintings and armor.

Time to Visit Hawa Mahal
The best time to visit Hawa Mahal is from October to March when it is winter because it will be really hot inside in summers. The Mahal is opened for the public from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Price to Visit Hawa Mahal
For Indian visitors, the ticket price is Rs 50 whereas for Foreign visitors the ticket price is Rs 200.
